Red Stags
Hungary has the reputation for producing excellent quality
stags. The habitat of these deer is the vegation of the forests, the rich
grove-like woods and the bordering agricultural fields are so import for the
nourishment. Hungary’s top quality stags and excellent stock is all down to
proper management by qualified gamekeepers.
Fallow Stags
The Fallow deer in Hungary can be found most often in the
areas of the Great Plains and the smaller hills, it likes the easier ground,
along the edges of the forest blocks that boarders to agriculture fields.
Currently Hungary has the 1,2,5 World records for Fallow Stags.
Roe Bucks
Roe deer can be found in all parts of Hungary that is down to
excellent game management and vastness of countryside. The roe bucks can be
divided into 2 categories, Forest Bucks and Field Bucks. The field bucks
product the bigger antlers than the forest deer,that is down to the agriculture
playing a huge part in the growth of the antlers. Again, Hungary has 3 of the
top 5 World Record Bucks.
Moufflon Ram
They are not native to Hungary but records show that the
species was take as far back as the 1870’s today you can find the game in the
mountain areas with island like placing. The mountain height is perfect for Moufflon, they like thick, stoney ground, older forests with boarding areas of
some agriculture. The animals can cause a lot of over grazing if proper
management is not in place, and in Hungary management is key for quality and
numbers.
Wild Boar
Wild Boar is native to Hungary and thrives in numbers, hence no
closed season. The boar like to be in thick swampy forests, that boarder to
fields, and after rains you can sometimes see the boar rotting around in the
fields looking for worms and grubs. The Trophy of the boar is the tusks, it
usually is 1/3 is shown and 2/3 is under the jaw. The sight of a heavy bodied,
large tusked boar, just the sight gives the hunters heart a flutter.
Pheasant
Hungary has the reputation for excellent “Valued” English style
drive shooting or even “walked up” pheasant shooting, and rightly so. The
shooting takes place, north east of Budapest in the hills and valleys , offering
the guns challenging birds. The gamekeepers have taken to not only have plenty
of feeders but also cover crops to keep the birds in excellent condition. The
price per bird is still well below the £20.
Duck
In the Great Plains of Hungary there is excellent Wild and Semi Wild
duck shooting. The shooting is first light in morning and evening flight just
as here in UK, in hidden duck blinds. The action and be fast, furious and
exciting.
