Friendly Fun in Rutland
The morning was crisp when we arrived at Holywell. The house made a beautiful setting for the days shoot. A syndicate from Leicstershire had booked a day here and we were coming along to help with their day. As the 7 guns started to arrive, the sun started to shine. It was the perfect weather for a shoot.
After the morning meeting we headed out. The guns were at their posts ready and waiting for the birds, and it wasn't long before they started to show up. The Partridges were fast and challenging and the Pheasants were high, but the group enjoyed the competition. From up and down the line you can here the friendly banter from the friends. They were clearly enjoying themselves, and this carried on all day. Even through the hot lunch Holywell had prepared the laughter was back and forth up and down the table.
The Guide and Shoot Manager, a Father and Son team, showed they had excellent knowledge of the land and of where the birds were as on every drive there were Partridges and Pheasants flying out in every direction. Having hit their target bag in 5 drives, the group stayed in the field for a bit longer to have a little tipple and talk about their day. All in all, I think it was very successful.
